I've never seen the movie because I'm not that interested in this kind of films. A few days ago, I've found the soundtrack in a used bin. As I'm beginning to discover and like the music by Bruno Coulais, this chance was a no brainer for me. But the CD is a very mixed bag. I must say that I just can not connect with things like Nike Cave's or Robert Wyatt's "song" - the orchestral/vocal tracks are fine for me. So I just programmed the CD like this,
3. Vers Le Nord
4. La Traversée
6. Tambour Battant
7. Le Retour Des Grues
8. Le Fil Bleu
10. Comme Un Souffle
11. L'Envol
12. Dans La Fumée Des Usines
13. Le Planeur
14. Après La Chasse
15. Les Haras En Papier
16. Le Vol Des Cygnes
17. A Tête Barrée
18. La Colombe Poignardée
(tracks #1, 2, 5, 9 and 19 are programmed out)
This way, it would have been a terrific CD, as well as a more homogenic listening experience.
Cave and Wyatt are just terribly intrusive, but they may have helped 'selling' the CD, I'm sure.
